Should we use the term…Strain or Variety or Sativa or Indica or Hybrid or…

All of the above terms are inaccurate.
Cultivar should be used
Cultivated variety = Culti + var = Cultivar

Contrary to what you may have heard the distinctions between the different varieties is genetically debated.

Differences in morphology are the main source of classification

With many new cross breeding occurring there has been mixing of types leading to a blurring between the two groups.
